Launching a marketplace for artisans living around the world
Millie is a perspective-expanding lifestyle brand and community that connects women from all corners of the globe. Founded by Chelsea Brown, the brand inspires connection through an online community, a podcast that invites listeners to see the world in a different way, an artisan marketplace, and so much more.
Following our work designing The Millie Podcast cover and supporting social content, we were approached to help launch the Millie Marketplace —an online shop featuring artisan products handcrafted by women. This special collection connects people through stories, and creates employment opportunities and economic empowerment for women living around the world.
Key considerations for our work included integrating the marketplace within an existing site, future-proofing the information architecture and providing a platform to share maker stories. This required a thoughtful design for the product detail page that prioritized the meaningful stories behind the artisans, the product origins and craftsmanship details.
Building on Millie’s existing visual identity, we expanded the colour palette and typographic styles for the marketplace. We then created wireframes, a redesigned navigation, UI/UX design for new components, content recommendations, and high-fidelity screens for collection and product detail pages.
From there, we custom developed the updates on Millie’s Shopify site as well as launched an automated, e-gift card delivery feature.
